5 Easy Ways to Style Colourful Clothing

Summer has well and truly arrived, and we can’t get enough of the heat! This season we’ve got plenty of bold and bright colours to lift your wardrobe, so no matter your favourite shade you can rock your summer style. But how do you dress up your brightest clothing without overdoing it? Bold brights can sometimes be tricky to navigate, but we’ve put together our top tips so that you can always be ready for anything.

1. Ace your accessories

When it comes to bright colours, it’s best to let your clothes do the talking. Don’t overload your look with a variety of jewellery - go for pieces that will highlight your outfit without distracting from the colours. A statement necklace is always a go-to option, as are earrings or a chunky bracelet. We can’t get enough of our star beaded chain, which looks great when paired with some of our boldest pieces. Add it to the Harriet Top in Raspberry or our Laura Coral to absolutely nail this look.

2. Print it out

Sometimes wearing one large block of colour can seem a bit daunting. For a statement look that mixes it up, why not go for a beautiful print? Our Emma Turquoise is the perfect balance of bold and beautiful, with a more subtle white print breaking up the colour. Picking pieces that have a solid base colour but a more subtle pattern allows you to enjoy this trend without feeling too bright from head to toe.

3. Put your best foot forward

You’ve got the perfect bright top or tunic, and you’re pairing it with a subtle pair of trousers or a plain skirt. But now what? To make your bold look even bolder, add a pair of statement shoes. Breaking up your bright pieces allows your outfit to pack a punch without being too overwhelming. Go for a glitter sandal such as our Marbellas for summer or a bright pair of boots for those colder days, and keep the colours matching for a coherent look.

4. Go round the colour-block

Feeling feisty? Then it’s time to colour-block! Colour-blocking is about pairing opposite colours together to make striking colour combinations. Crack out your colour wheel and check out which colours sit opposite each other to see how creative you can be. This look is easiest when you work with only two solid colours - nobody wants to be a human rainbow. Avoid prints with this look, and try different unusual textures such as silk and denim, or leather and linen to keep the contrast between your two bold colours strong.

5. Depend on your denim

If you’re looking for ways to soften a bright look but still show off your favourite colour, then denim is always a great fabric to choose from. Offset your crazy shades with a more casual denim piece, such as a pair of denim joggers with a yellow tunic or a loose denim shirt with floral trousers. Blue denim is best for those who want to tone done the look, but there are a range of bolder denim pieces available now which can add yet another zingy pop of colour to your wardrobe.
